More than 550,000 hunters are expected to head to the woods this season. The season ends on November 30th.
The firearm deer hunting season is underway and the DNR is reminding hunters to stay safe.
Along with regular hunting safety regulations, hunters staying at camp with people from outside their households who are not vaccinated are asked to follow COVID-19 guidelines. Wear a mask indoors or if you can’t stay 6-feet apart… sleep in separate rooms, tents or trailers…and sanitized hands and surfaces regularly.
The DNR adds hunting season is an important part of the state’s economy. A recent study released by Michigan United Conservation Clubs estimates that hunting and fishing in Michigan generate $11.2 billion each year, with the state's hunters contributing $8.9 billion – about 80 percent – of those critical dollars.
