HOUGHTON, MI— The City of Houghton is asking snowmobilers to stay off the ice near the Houghton waterfront, east of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge.
In a Facebook post, officials say ongoing pier construction has made surrounding ice very thin. Riders should stay at least 200 feet away from barges and heavy equipment in the area.
Officials urge all snowmobilers to use the designated trail system in the city.
