Improvements will close some state parks over the summer

HOUGHTON, MI— The Michigan DNR is reminding residents about park closures this summer due to improvement projects.

$250 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding is being used to make critical updates at parks around the state.

Houghton County’s McLain State Park will close August 1^st and remain closed the rest of the season. The DNR is upgrading the park’s wastewater treatment system. A proposed $350,000 in ARPA funding is available for that and other renovations.

DNR officials say the funds will help the department address a decades-long backlog of repair and maintenance needs.
