Michigan Department of Natural Resources

ESCANABA, MI— The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is holding Kids Fishing Day at its Pocket Park in Escanaba this weekend.

It’s the 31st anniversary of the event, which takes place Saturday at the U.P. State Fairgrounds. Activities will include bluegill fishing, minnow races, and face painting. A certified angler instructor will teach kids how to cast a line and tie fishing knots.

Registration is from noon to 1:30 p.m. and fishing will last until 3 p.m. It’s free of charge and open to kids 16 and younger.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
