LaCombe Field reopen after upgrades completed

NEGAUNEE, MI— Negaunee’s LaCombe Softball Field officially reopened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week.

A number of improvements were made at the field, including the construction of universally accessible dugouts and sidewalks, installation of ADA-compliant ramps, and the addition of new accessible parking spaces. The project was supported by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's Public Spaces Community Places grant program. It matched more than $50,000 in local donations.

LaCombe Field is a venue for numerous community events, including the Renee Thomas Memorial Tournament, the Iron Range Women's League, the Old Timers game, the Co-Ed League, and the Alumni Softball Tournament.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
