ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI— Repair work delays on the Agate Trestle in Ontonagon County mean a portion of snowmobile Trail UP8 will be closed this winter.
The trestle crosses the Middle Branch of the Ontonagon River. It has compromised footings, causing the trail section closure between Bruce Crossing and Kenton.
Engineering is underway to design a fix for the footings. Repairs are expected to be undertaken next year. Originally, the trail was scheduled to be closed until November 1.
The Department of Natural Resources says the available trail re-route is located south of Trail UP8. It uses portions of trails UP3, UP150, and UP107.
