Delta County personnel rescue two people after they fall through the ice

DELTA COUNTY, MI— Two people were rescued from thin ice in Delta County over the weekend.

Saturday around 6:45 a.m., the Delta County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an area near the mouth of the Ford River on a report that two subjects had fallen through the ice.

Numerous ice rescue personnel responded with the Sheriff’s Office airboat.

The subjects were standing on thin ice about two miles south of the mouth of the Ford River. They had gotten themselves out of the water and were stranded on top of the ice.

Rescuers got the subjects into the airboat and took them back to shore. No injuries were reported.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Delta County Central Dispatch, Delta County Search and Rescue, Masonville Fire and EMS, the Ensign Fire Department, and Rampart EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
