Thin ice prompts danger warnings from DNR

DELTA COUNTY, MI— The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is warning anglers and others to avoid the ice on Delta County’s Little Bay de Noc.

Several individuals have reportedly fallen through the ice into the waters of Lake Michigan. At least one ORV was also reported to have broken through.

The deteriorating ice conditions on the bay are similar to those reported at numerous lakes across the region, with temperatures remaining above normal.

Officials say failing ice conditions threaten lives—especially places fed by springs, river and creek mouths, and lakes with open water around shorelines.
