Marquette City Fire Dept warns of dangers of swimming near Picnic Rocks

Marquette, MI - The Marquette City Fire Department is reminding residents and visitors they’re not allowed to swim to Picnic Rocks. It’s prohibited to go past the ‘No Swimming’ signs and buoys placed between the shoreline and the rocks. Officials say they’ve made contact recently with several people attempting to swim to the area, which experiences strong currents. Several people have drowned over the years trying to swim to Picnic Rocks. Anyone caught breaking the rule could be charged with a civil infraction and be subject to enforcement procedures and penalties.
