McGeorge's body found by helicopter following 3-day search

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI— It’s a sad ending to an intense search in Marquette County.

Officials have found the body of Aaron McGeorge, 40, of Marquette Township, whose vehicle was located Tuesday near Hogback Mountain. Around 11:35 Thursday morning a Blackhawk Medivac helicopter from the Wisconsin Air National Guard found McGeorge on the east side of County Road 550 and north of Sugarloaf Mountain. It was 200 yards northeast of where his truck was located.

Primary findings at the scene lead investigators to believe McGeorge died from injuries sustained in a fall from a rock bluff. The Marquette County Medical Examiner’s Office will investigate the determine the official cause and manner of death.

No foul play is suspected. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says numerous factors made the search difficult. The terrain is rugged, there’s no cell service, McGeorge had no device that could be tracked, and he didn’t tell anyone where he was going. Deputies encourage the public to use the buddy system and to let someone know your itinerary when traveling in the woods or on the water.
