KEWEENAW COUNTY, MI— The Keweenaw County Sheriff's Office is holding a public meeting next week to talk about the formation of a search and rescue unit.
Sheriff Curt Pennala says county search and rescue activities have been accomplished over the years through the help of fire departments and other local agencies, but a recent influx of tourists in the area prompted officials to investigate forming a Sheriff’s Office-based team.
Pennala says those interested in becoming part of a dedicated, professional team should attend the meeting. It takes place Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at the Allouez Community Center.
