MARQUETTE, MI-- The Department of Natural Resources is reminding anglers about the deadlines to remove ice shanties from state lakes.
On Michigan-Wisconsin boundary waters ice shanties must be removed by midnight on Saturday, March 15. For all counties in the Upper Peninsula the removal date is Monday, March 31.
Shanties may still be used after the mandatory removal dates, but must be taken off the ice each day.
Owners whose shanties fall through the ice could be fined up to $500 or spend up to 30 days in jail. If a shanty is removed by a government agency the owner may have to reimburse that agency up to three times the cost of removal.
