Noquemanon race trail changed

MARQUETTE, MI--   Recent warm weather has altered the course of this weekend’s UPHS Noquemanon Ski Marathon.

Race coordinator Nikki Dewald says for the first time in the race’s history it will start at the County Road 510 trailhead, not the Al Quaal Recreation Area, due to low snow amounts and several water crossings on the traditional course.

“We’re going to basically ski all racers through the Noquemanon Trail Network system in between County Road 510 and the Forestville trailhead,” she says.

Dewald says the Noquemanon Trail Network has been manicuring trails daily, so they’re holding up well.

Racers who cross the finish line will be bussed from Forestville back to the Superior Dome.

More than 1,000 skiers have registered for this year’s race, and Dewald expects a total count of 1,200 by the time the race begins.

She notes volunteers are still needed for Friday night and Saturday.
