Calumet readies for NHL game at Colosseum

CALUMET, MI--   The Detroit Red Wings face off against the St. Louis Blues Thursday night in Calumet, the winner of Kraft Hockeyville USA 2019.

The preseason game is one of the prizes the town won after it amassed the most votes in the online contest to be named the most spirited hockey community in America. The Calumet Colosseum—the oldest in-use ice arena in the world—also won $150,000 in rink upgrades and $10,000 in equipment.

Colosseum officials say the locker rooms have received fresh paint and new mats, and new heaters have been installed for the seats.

Calumet residents have been celebrating Hockeyville USA all week. They got the chance to see the Stanley Cup on Monday. A Red and Blue Celebration was held at the Calumet Readiness Center Wednesday evening, and a Kraft Hockeyville Pep Rally will be held at Calumet High School Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Red Wings are expected to arrive Thursday morning and practice in front of an audience at the Colosseum. The game against St. Louis starts at 7 p.m. Eastern. It will be broadcast live on the NBC Sports Network.
