Officials still planning to hold Ore to Shore bike race

MARQUETTE, MI--   Plans to hold the Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic this summer are moving forward.

The race committee says the event is still set for August 8, but the current pandemic situation is fluid and some decisions may be beyond officials’ control. They say they’re planning some modifications to protect everyone’s health. That includes mailing out bib packets for those registered before August 1, moving portions of the expo outside, increasing the size of the start line pens to comply with social distancing, and making sure aid station volunteers are equipped with personal protective equipment.

The race committee is working with units of government, health officials and law enforcement to monitor the situation and evaluate options. Officials say any decisions made regarding the race will be done with their input and communicated in a timely fashion with complete transparency.
