Former MTU student achieves best American biathlon time ever at Beijing Olympics

BEIJING, CHINA— A Michigan Tech alumna has posted the best finish ever by an American in the Olympic biathlon.

Deedra Irwin of Pulaski, Wisconsin finished 7^th in the women’s 15-kilometer individual skiing and shooting event in Beijing, China Monday. She hit 19 of 20 targets on the range, and finished just one minute, 1.4 seconds behind the gold medal-winner from Germany.

Irwin ran cross country and track and competed in Nordic skiing at Tech, where she got her bachelor's degree in exercise science in 2015.
