Northern Michigan University AD leaving post

MARQUETTE, MI— NMU athletic director Forrest Karr is headed to the University of Minnesota Duluth to be the school’s new Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Karr has been at Northern since 2012. He started five NCAA Division II programs on campus, initiated two strategic plans, and led the department through a rebranding process.

Taking over until a permanent AD can be found will be former longtime NMU athletic director and hockey coach Rick Comley, starting 8/22/22.

Comley served in Marquette for 13 years. He brought NCAA Division I national men's hockey championships to NMU in 1991, then to Michigan State University in 2007.

A national search for a permanent athletic director will begin soon.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
