Northern Michigan University searching for new head hockey coach

MARQUETTE, MI— NMU head hockey coach Grant Potulny is stepping down to pursue a position at the professional level.

Northern Athletic Director Rick Comley will serve as interim head coach as the university launches a national search for a new head coach.

Associate head coach Byron Pool and assistant coach Nick Peruzzi have also stepped down to accept coaching positions elsewhere.

Serving as head coach since the 2017-18 season, Potulny concluded his career at NMU with a 128-113-17 record.

Comley, who brought NCAA Division I national men's hockey championships to both NMU and Michigan State University, served Northern as athletic director for 13 years before returning to athletic director duties in August of 2022.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
