Former USOEC wrestler medals in Paris

PARIS, FRANCE— A former U.S. Olympic Education Center athlete won a bronze medal in the Paris Olympics.

Wrestler Helen Maroulis, 32, captured her third Olympic medal Friday night after winning by a 4-0 margin over Hannah Taylor of Canada. Maroulis previously won a gold medal in the 53kg weight class in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and a bronze in the 57kg class in Tokyo in 2020.

A Rockville, Maryland native, Maroulis moved to Marquette her senior year of high school in 2008 to train at Northern’s Olympic training center.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
