AAA expects Thanksgiving travel to be just shy of pre-pandemic levels in Michigan

DEARBORN, MI— AAA predicts 54.6 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home this Thanksgiving.

Travel in Michigan is forecast to be the third busiest for the Thanksgiving holiday since AAA started tracking such numbers in 2000. The auto club forecasts more than 1.7 million Michiganders will travel 50 miles or more for Turkey Day. That’s over 34,000 more Michiganders than last year, but still 69,000 less than 2019.

AAA says in Michigan, 1.5 million people will take a road trip, an increase of 10,000 people from last Thanksgiving.

The auto club says airports are expected to congested, with 4.5 million Americans flying to their Thanksgiving destinations this year.
