Groundbreaking on new Marquette veterans home to be held Friday

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI— A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Friday for a new veterans home in Marquette.

Michigan Veteran Homes and the Michigan Veterans Facility Authority Board of Directors are hosting the event. It will include remarks from U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Paul D. Rogers, adjutant general and director of the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman; Anne Zerbe, executive director and CEO of MVH; Dave Henry, chairman of the board for the MVFA; Marquette Township Supervisor Lyn Durant; Ron Oja, administrator of Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti (MVHDJJ); and Brad Slagle, vice-chair of the MVFA and former administrator of MVHDJJ.

It will also include a posting of the colors led by the Michigan Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors Upper Peninsula Team.

The ceremony takes place at 9:30 a.m. on Venture Drive in Marquette Township.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
