MARQUETTE, MI— The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency has honored a Northern Michigan University veteran advocate for her work.
NMU Student Support Services Program assistant, Madi Spychalla, received the MVAA Coin of Excellence for exceptional service to military-connected students.
NMU Student Veteran Services coordinator, Mike Rutledge, says Spychalla assists him with appointment scheduling, verifying enrollment paperwork, planning events, and consistently familiarizing herself with VA education benefits to best serve veterans and transitioning service members, even though it’s not part of her job description.
Spychalla was given the coin at a VA Benefits Boot Camp held at Northern earlier this month.
