MARQUETTE, MI— Construction of the new D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans is going better than expected.
That’s according to interim administrator Chris LaJoie. He says you can now see elevation of the new facility off of Venture Drive in Marquette.
The home will be around 133,000 square feet. It will contain 108 private bedrooms with bathrooms and showers, a community center, activity space, and a bistro.
LaJoie says the added space and natural light will be life-changing for residents.
“Our old buildings are corridor after corridor with, you know, there’s not a whole lot of sunshine. And you’re sharing a 300-square-foot room, maybe 350-square-foot room, with one person. And now you’re going to have your own private space. It changes your outlook on everything.”
LaJoie says officials are hoping to have a certificate of occupancy by the fall of 2027. They’re looking to move in residents in early 2028.
