Whitmer appoints UP men to state wildlife positions

LANSING, MI--   Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed two Upper Peninsula residents to state boards and commissions.

J.R. Richardson of Ontonagon has been appointed to the Michigan Natural Resources Commission to represent Republicans. He’s a member of Trout Unlimited, Whitetails Unlimited, the Ducks Unlimited board, the Ontonagon Valley Sportsmen’s Club, and is president of the Upper Peninsula Sport Fishermen’s Association.

Dr. Jason Garvon of Brimley has been appointed to the Michigan Wildlife Council. He’s a professor of biology at Lake Superior State University, an advisor for the LSSU chapter of Ducks Unlimited, and a former member of the Eastern U.P. Citizens Advisory Council. Garvon will represent individuals who have purchased hunting or fishing licenses in Michigan on a regular basis.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
