Cougar photographed in Dickinson County in September

Michigan Department of Natural Resources

DICKINSON COUNTY, MI— The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has confirmed a trail camera image of a cougar was taken last month in southern Dickinson County.

The photo was snapped September 16th about 50 miles from where a July 20th video was taken in Baraga County.

It brings to 74 the total number of confirmed cougar reports in Michigan since 2008. Officials say a single animal may be in more than one sighting.

So far this year, 10 cougar reports have been confirmed in the U.P. They include three from Dickinson County, two from Marquette County and one each from Baraga, Delta, Houghton, Luce and Schoolcraft counties.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
