LANSING, MI— The Department of Natural Resources has created an initiative to evaluate and respond to current deer management challenges across the state.
Officials say in the Upper Peninsula, habitat concerns, changing weather patterns, and a diverse array of predators present different challenges from those in the Lower Peninsula. These combinations of factors have not been experienced in deer management in recent years.
The DNR will create a group consisting of other natural resources organizations, tribes, and people who share deer management concerns to address the issues.
Those who wish to participate in the effort can apply to be part of the group through January 31st. A link to apply to be part of the Deer Management Initiative committee is here. Those wanting to submit ideas for improvement can email DNR-Wildlife@michigan.gov Please include the term “DMI” in the subject line.
