Missing tortoise found, is now on health watch

SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY, MI— A 30-pound tortoise missing in Schoolcraft County since Monday has been found alive.

The Sulcata tortoise named Yoda was found early Thursday morning about a half-mile from his home. The man who owned the property where the tortoise was found originally thought Yoda was a snapping turtle, until he saw flyers and posts about the missing animal. He invited a group of people to search his property.

Yoda was found, cold and unmoving, in an open field. His eyes were sealed shut. He was taken to the Thompson Veterinary Clinic and treated for a severe upper respiratory infection and possible organ failure.

Yoda’s owner says he'll continue to receive veterinary care, and they’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
