Public meeting to be held regarding Lake Gogebic walleye regulations

MARENISCO TOWNSHIP, MI— The Department of Natural Resources is looking for public input on proposed Lake Gogebic walleye regulations.

The largest inland lake in the U.P. currently falls under the existing statewide regulation for walleye: a 15-inch minimum size requirement and a daily possession limit of five fish.

The regulation change being considered adds a protected slot limit. That means anglers would not be able to possess any walleye measuring between 18 and 23 inches in the daily possession limit of five fish and could possess only one walleye 23 inches or longer.

A public meeting to discuss the potential change will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Marenisco Township Hall.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
