Salamander migration to vernal pools to close Marquette roadway

MARQUETTE, MI— A portion of road at Presque Isle Park in Marquette will close starting Sunday to help the blue-spotted salamander migrate to its reproduction sites.

The southwest bend of Peter White Drive from the Ice Cream Store Pavilion to the gate north of the pavilion will close to vehicles daily at 8 p.m. The closure starts March 15 and lasts until May 15, or until the completion of the migration.

While road barricades will be placed and removed daily to prevent vehicular traffic in the migration area, foot traffic will be permitted during regular park hours.
