Vehicle hits, snaps pole in Negaunee

NEGAUNEE, MI--   No injuries were reported after a vehicle hit a utility pole in Negaunee.

City Police were dispatched Wednesday around 4:25 a.m. to US-41 West near Malton Road. Upon arrival, officers found a Chevrolet Impala had veered off the roadway and struck a power pole, causing it to break and fall into the eastbound lane of the highway.

The driver of the vehicle—a 48-year-old Ishpeming woman—appeared to have had a medical episode prior to the crash. She appeared uninjured, thanks to her seatbelt and the airbag deploying.  She was taken to UPHS-Bell for evaluation.

UPHS-Bell EMS, the Negaunee City Fire Department, the Negaunee City Electrical Department and Anttila’s Towing assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
