In Performance at Reynolds Hall: The Don Bays Trio

NMU's BC 473A students recorded and produced a private concert by the Don Bays Trio in the Reynolds Recital Hall. Tune in Friday, May 6 at 10pm and Sunday, May 8 at 3pm to hear the final product. By Gregg Beukema

BC 473A may not mean much to most of us, but to the students enrolled in Dr. Chuck Ganzert?s Advanced Broadcast Production course (listed below), it translates into real world experience for students who have chosen a career track in radio broadcasting. The primary assignment for the course is a ?ready-to-broadcast? production. Taking the project from an empty studio to broadcast, the students recorded and produced a hour of great listening featuring Marquette?s favorite jazz trio, the Don Bays Trio, with Don Bays on the piano, Tom Johnson on the drums and, of course, on the bass, Dave Zeigner.

Students were responsible for organizing the private performance, moving the recording equipment from their classroom studio to the sound booth in the new Reynolds Recital Hall, coordinating sound checks and then post producing the performance for radio broadcast. Assisting Dr. Ganzert (part of a team of broadcasterswho have traveled to Ulan Bator, Mongolia on behalf of UNESCO to provide expertise in the rebuilding of the national broadcast service) was Pat Lakenen, Audio Visual Technical Coordinator, at NMU.

In Performance at Reynolds Hall: The Don Bays Trio, airs Friday, May 6 at 10:00 pm and Sunday, May 8 at 3:00 pm on Public Radio 90, hosted by Hans Ahlstrom.
