New rules in Michigan fireworks law

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette City Fire Department is reminding residents about changes in the Michigan fireworks law this year.

The state now allows people to buy and use more powerful fireworks, including small bottle rockets, aerials, Roman candles, firecrackers, missile-type rockets, helicopter aerial spinners, and single-tube devices with report.

Officials say the fireworks cannot be used on public, school, or church property, or on another person’s property without permission; no one under the age of 18 can buy them; and fireworks cannot be set off by anyone under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.

For more information, call the Marquette Fire Department at 225-8940.
