Atlantic Mine woman now a millionaire

LANSING, MI--   The identity of the Upper Peninsula winner of a Mega Millions jackpot has been revealed.

At a press conference in Lansing Wednesday Michigan Lottery Commissioner Scott Bowen announced Judy Juntunen of Atlantic Mine won $19 million.

Juntunen bought the ticket February 5 at Festival Foods in Houghton.  She chose the cash option, which means Juntunen will get $14 million before taxes.  After taxes, her winnings will be $9.8 million.

Juntunen says she got a call from her granddaughter, who heard the Houghton store sold the winning ticket.  Juntunen says that's when she realized she was the winner.

The former contract mail carrier intends to buy a car with 4-wheel-drive to maneuver in the snow.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
