LANSING, MI (AP)-- Michiganians will be able to make voluntary donations for Alzheimer's and ALS organizations on their state income tax form, under bills approved by the House.
The bills passed by a 108 to 1 vote Wednesday and now go to the Senate. They'd place check-off boxes for donations to the Michigan Alzheimer's Association Fund and ALS of Michigan Fund on the tax forms.
ALS is short for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Michigan taxpayers can choose to donate to certain charities on their state income tax forms. Lawmakers must decide which organizations can be added to the tax form list.
Organizations already on the 2012 tax form include the Children of Veterans Tuition Grant Program and Girls Scouts of Michigan.
