'Let run' orders expanding

MARQUETTE, MI--   A frost line six to seven feet deep in some areas is wreaking havoc with water pipes in communities around the Upper Peninsula.

Officials in a number of towns have issued “let-run” orders to their customers.  They say residents should run water about the width of a Number 2 pencil until further notice.  The continuous stream should prevent the water from freezing.

WLUC-TV says let-run orders are in effect for:

Customers of Adams Township Public Works

Chatham

Iron River

some streets in Ishpeming

Menominee

Lake Linden

L’Anse

Palmer

parts of Sawyer

Baraga

Tilden Township

Big Bay

Munising

Rock

Princeton

Austin

New Swanzy

Ironwood

Crystal Falls City and Township

Trenary

the Greenwood and Diorite water systems in Ely Township

Adams Township

some areas of Negaunee Township

and certain streets in Marquette.

Residents should keep their water running until notified to stop, even if temperatures rise.
