LANSING, MI (AP)-- The Michigan House has approved part of a 2015 budget that would increase revenue sharing payments for local governments.
The House on Tuesday voted 92-17 for a $36.5 billion budget bill that allocates funding for everything but education. It's expected to consider a separate $15.6 billion budget bill covering K-12 schools, community college and higher education later this week.
The omnibus bill increases payments to counties from sales tax by $65 million to $211 million. It also boosts to $765 million the revenue that local governments must receive under the state constitution. That's in line with the budget Gov. Rick Snyder proposed in February.
The Senate also passed parts of its budget Tuesday. Both chambers are expected to pass their versions of the budget by week's end.
