LANSING, MI (AP)-- State Natural Resources creel clerks will spend the next few months speaking with anglers about their fishing excursions.
The DNR says the Fisheries Division personnel will collect the data while stationed at boat launches and piers near lakes, rivers and Great Lakes ports.
Clerks will seek information on the length of trips, species of fish targeted by anglers and the number of fish caught. The DNR says clerks may ask to measure or weigh fish and take scale samples.
The data collection is part of the Statewide Angler Survey monitoring program. The program tracks recreational fisheries across Michigan's waters and the Great Lakes.
Creel clerks interview upward of 50,000 anglers in most years.
