Marquette, MI - The Lake Superior Community Partnership is joining the Michigan Competitive Workforce Coalition, a group that is working to update the Elliot-Larsen Civil Rights Act to include sexual orientation and gender identity. Currently under ELCRA, it is illegal to subject people to differential treatment based on religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, height, weight, familial status or marital status… and the ELCRA prohibits employers from discriminating in hiring, compensation… or the terms, conditions or privileges of employment. LSCP CEO Amy Clickner says the goal is to “create a Michigan where everyone is free and welcome to contribute to our economic comeback.”
According to the LSCP, research shows an overwhelming majority of Michigan residents support updating the Elliot-Larsen Civil Rights Act, and many communities across Michigan have already acted to update their civil rights ordinances on this issue.
The Lake Suprior Community Partnership helps its partners make connections between businesses, organizations, leaders and legislators, providing a legislative voice for programs and policies that strengthen its regional economy.
