AAA says more people expected to travel over the 4th this year

DEARBORN, MI--   About 41 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home this Independence Day holiday.

That’s according to AAA, which says that’s a 1.9 percent increase from the 40.3 million people who went on a road trip last year.  More than eight in ten people are expected to drive.

AAA projects nearly 1.35 million Michiganders will travel for the Fourth—a 2.5 percent increase over last year.  Of those travelers more than 1.2 million will take a car; 61,000 will go by plane; and the remaining 103,000 travelers will go by bus, rail, or ship.

The holiday travel period runs from Wednesday through Sunday.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
