ANN ARBOR, MI (AP)-- The National Science Foundation has awarded more than $10 million to researchers at the University of Michigan and Stanford University to conduct a series of surveys on political participation and vote choice in the 2016 presidential election.
An announcement Thursday from the University of Michigan says the surveys are part of an ongoing project called American National Election Studies.
University of Michigan political scientist Vincent Hutchings says researchers plan to look at issues including the possible effect of income inequality, the role of gender attitudes and partisan polarization among voters. Hutchings is co-principal investigator along with Gary Segura of Stanford.
The American National Election Studies provide data to scholars and analysts. The project also produces an online Guide to Public Opinion and Electoral Behavior for educators.
