AFL-CIO president: Snyder taxed the little guy

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — National AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka is trying to bolster organized labor's efforts to elect Mark Schauer as governor and Gary Peters Michigan's next U.S. senator.
Trumka visited his union's state headquarters in Lansing Saturday to encourage volunteers. Unions see defeating Republican Governor Rick Snyder as a priority nationally.
Trumka says Snyder gave "billions of dollars in tax breaks to corporate interests" and "taxed the little guy." He says Michigan's economy is important to the national economy, and Snyder "stymied it."
Snyder touts the addition of nearly 300,000 jobs and says the $1.8 billion business tax cut helped owners of smaller businesses.
Trumka visited Grand Rapids election volunteers and a Consumers Energy plant south of Grand Haven Friday. The union wants to knock on 200,000 doors before Tuesday's election.
