Legislators want teachers to talk about genocide

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Michigan lawmakers say they want to ensure students receive instruction about the Holocaust and other genocides.

A bill approved unanimously Thursday by the state Senate would require public schools to provide genocide instruction to eighth to -12th graders. It recommends a combined six hours of instruction.

The legislation also would require the state to include questions related to genocide learning objectives on standardized tests.

The bill now goes to the House for its consideration.
