MADISON HEIGHTS, MI (AP)--   A rifle-carrying man testing gun rights in suburban Detroit has prompted officials to lock down a high school twice in a week.

The Detroit Free Press reports videos show a confrontation near Lamphere High School in Madison Heights between police and 39-year-old Shawn Nixon, who made the videos with a camera on his chest.

Police say school officials don't want him there. Nixon says he's within his rights to openly carry the weapon.

Separately, the Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education asked state lawmakers to consider legislation to make schools gun-free zones. It comes after 22-year-old Joshua Wade openly carried a gun into Pioneer High School during a choir concert.

A Michigan resident who has a concealed pistol license may legally openly carry a gun into a school.
