Have Coffee with a Cop in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--   Members of the Marquette County law enforcement community and the Disaster Action Team are meeting up with residents to talk about current issues.

Coffee with a Cop is a casual event being held at Culver’s in Marquette Township Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Officials say it’s an opportunity for people to meet with those who serve them to discuss various topics, build relationships, and just drink coffee.

Most of the contact people have with law enforcement is usually during emergencies or highly emotional situations, which aren’t the best for building relationships.  Officials say Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for relaxed, one-on-one communication.

“We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” says F/Lt. Clint Michelin, Commander of the Negaunee Post. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
