Lost hunter found by DNR officer

CLARK TOWNSHIP, MI--   A man who became lost while hunting in Mackinac County has been located.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the 67-year-old Sault Ste. Marie man had been hunting Sunday in Clark Township, a few miles northeast of Cedarville.  He had wounded a deer and was tracking it when daylight and diminished and he became disoriented.

At 4:50 p.m. the man was able to call 911 on his cell phone in an area known for spotty reception.  Deputies from the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from the Clark Township Fire Department started a search.  DNR conservation officer Jon Busken heard about the situation and joined the search.

When Busken and a sheriff’s deputy sounded their sirens in different areas the hunter heard Busken’s siren the loudest.  He began walking toward the officer, but became further disoriented in a swamp.  Busken walked into the swamp and eventually found the hunter around 10:30 p.m.

The unidentified man was in good condition.
