LANSING, MI (AP)-- The Michigan Civil Service Commission has approved contracts with five unions representing about 33,000 state workers that include pay increases.
The Lansing State Journal reports the contracts were approved Wednesday and include a 1 percent increase in salary, 1.5 percent lump-sum payments this fall and flat health care costs and benefits.
The contracts cover workers represented by the United Auto Workers Local 6000, the Michigan Corrections Organization, the Michigan State Employees Association, the Service Employees International Union Local 517M and the American Federation of State, County, & Municipal Employees Council 25.
They include a one-year agreement on wages and health care. There's a three-year agreement on other contract terms.
Collectively, the unions represent about two-thirds of the state government workforce, including corrections officers, child welfare workers and transportation employees.
