Lost Hessel man found

HESSEL, MI--   A Mackinac County man has been found safe after he became lost in some woods.

WWTV reports the Hessel man was collecting cans Sunday around 3 p.m. when he became disoriented.  Sheriff’s deputies say he was able to call 911 and have officials track his location before his cell phone died.

Pickford Fire and Rescue found the man more than two hours later and built a fire to warm him up.  It took two more hours to lead him out because of dense woods and rough terrain.

The man was taken to the hospital and treated for hypothermia and minor injuries from a fall in a creek.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
