Marquette getting ready for Independence Day activities

MARQUETTE, MI--   "The Greatest 4th in the North" celebration kicks off on Saturday, July 2 at noon with the opening of the Marquette Exchange Club International Food Fest. The annual festival held at Ellwood 

Mattson Lower Harbor Park runs through Monday, July 4 from noon until 10:00 p.m. offering food, live music, and children's activities.

The Fourth of July Parade hosted by the Marquette Noon Kiwanis begins at 2 p.m. on Monday, the 4th. The parade starts at West Washington and McClellan and proceeds down West Washington to Third and finishes at Baraga Avenue.  

The main event of the evening - the Fourth of July fireworks - will begin at dusk (approximately 10:30 p.m.) Music simulcast to the fireworks will be broadcast through the stage speakers and will be live over the radio via 100.3 The Point, WUPT. Listeners can tune in at home or along viewpoints throughout Marquette County. In case of inclement weather, the backup date is scheduled for Tuesday, July 5th. An announcement will be made by 9:00 p.m. on 100.3 The Point, local T.V. Stations, and on the Marquette Fireworks Facebook page. Ushering in the fireworks is the Marquette Yacht Club Boat Parade beginning at 8:45 p.m. in the Lower Harbor.

Other weekend activities include the UPAWS Sunrise Dog Dash beginning at Picnic Rocks at 8:30 a.m. on July 4. The Marquette Firefighters competitions begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Food Fest also on the 4th.
