MARQUETTE, MI-- The construction process on three roundabouts near Marquette’s new hospital has begun.
City manager Mike Angeli says city traffic has been analyzed over the past few years and the study indicates roundabouts are the best choice.
“When it comes to intersections, roundabouts by far are the safest,” he says. “They move the traffic in the most efficient manner, they are cheaper in the long run as opposed to a signaled intersection, for example.”
One roundabout will be built at the intersection of Grove Street and US-41. Another—about a quarter-mile west of Grove—will facilitate an entrance to the hospital on Baraga Avenue, where the third roundabout will be placed.
Construction began Monday and is expected to last until September or October of this year.
