Suicidal man surrenders to Forsyth Township police

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI--   A suicidal Forsyth Township man is safe, following a standoff with Township Police.

Officers were called Thursday around 7 p.m. to a residence on the 100 block of Blueberry Street on a report of a subject holding a gun to his head. The man—who was in his garage—refused to come out and cooperate with police.

After an approximate 5.5-hour standoff the man came out of the garage and surrendered to police. He was taken to UPHS Marquette for treatment.

Assisting at the scene were Michigan State Police and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

Police say family members and friends helped officers on the scene by talking to the subject and helping to convince him to surrender without incident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
